General Academic Evaluation
TABE Assessment & Accuplacer Assessment
This online assessment measures a veteran's general level of math, writing and spelling to help identify academic strengths and weaknesses. The TABE test produces a score based on a grade equivalency of 1 through 13. The online TABE takes 20-30 minutes to complete. The Accuplacer test produces a students readiness to complete college entrance courses. The Accuplacer takes 45-60 minutes to complete.
College Math/Writing Readiness
Compass Assessment & Accuplacer Student Assessment
These online assessments evaluate a veteran's math and writing ability to determine his or her level of college math or writing. Most students entering or transferring to a Montana college must complete the Compass Assessment, Accuplacer Student Assessment, or similar test (Aleks, eWrite), which place them in an appropriate level of college math and writing courses. The online Compass Assessment takes about 20-30 minutes to complete and the Online Accuplacer Student Assessment takes about 45-60 minutes to complete. Each assessment indicates areas needing an academic refresher.
Career Assessment Inventory
This questionnaire compares an individual's occupational interests to those of individuals in 111 specific careers that reflect a broad range of technical and professional positions in today's workforce. The results are used to develop career and study plans. The program director will contact the veteran with the results to provide career planning services and to explore education and training options. The online CAI takes 30-45 minutes to complete.

Math & Writing Refresher
Preparing for College Placement Testing
The Compass, Aleks and eWrite assessments are placement tests used by colleges and some training programs to evaluate an incoming student's level of math, writing and reading. The results are used to place students in college math and writing classes matched to their skill levels. VUB's 2-week workshop is design to quickly refresh math and writing skills in preparation for taking the college admission assessment at the end of the workshop (any associated testing fees are covered by VUB).
The Veterans Upward Bound is a program in my opinion is a necessity. The amount of knowledge one can gain from this experience is great. It has already been proven by students and faculty that the fail rate of a veteran coming out of this program is significantly less than say one who didn't feel the need. Before joining the program I feared the thought of going back to school and not being able to catch on, but now I have the confidence I need to succeed in college after my VUB experience.Student Testimonial
